Write for Us!

Are you interested in writing for Kids Who Play?

We do accept guest posts and would love to hear your ideas!

But first…

We get many guest post inquiries and are VERY selective about what you publish on our site.

Please read through ALL of the following guidelines before completing the guest post form.

Guest Post Topics We Accept

We are looking for encouraging and informative guest posts related to play, toys, and parenting.

Topics include:

  • Parenting (note: we are not publishing posts about sleep/sleep training at this time)
  • Open-ended play activities
  • Open-ended toys
  • Playroom setup/organization
  • Independent Play
  • Family life
  • Getting kids outside
  • Importance of play
  • Toy reviews, comparisons, best of (note: article cannot include your affiliate links)
  • Kids books, reading

We are not looking for essay-style personal pieces but rather informative, easy-to-skim content.

In addition, we do not accept posts about craft projects or “cute” Pinterest-style activities. We value open-ended, child-led play!

Guest Post Requirements

  1. Posts must be unique – they cannot be published on your site or any other site now or in the future!
  2. Each post must target a keyword with a search volume of at least 250 monthly searches. Do some research before pitching your idea!
  3. Posts must be between 1200 and 2500 words.
  4. You will receive two links to your site—one within the body of the post (it must fit well contextually!) and one in your author’s bio at the end of the post. You may include other relevant links in the article, but it is up to our discretion whether or not we will keep them.
  5. You are welcome to share high-quality original photos that add to your article (e.g., photos showing your mud kitchen or playroom organization), but you are not required to include photos.

Submission Process

1. Send Over a Pitch

We are so excited to hear your pitch ideas!

Use the form at the end of this page to pitch any article(s) ideas you have.

Please note: each article idea must target a keyword with a monthly search volume of at least 250 searches.

All posts must be unique and cannot be published anywhere else now or in the future.

We will only consider ideas that are submitted via the form below.

2. Wait for a Response

We’ll get back to you as soon as possible and let you know if we have any interest!

3. Create Outline

If we’re interested in your pitch, we will help you create an outline to guide your writing and set a deadline for when your first draft must be submitted.

4. Submit First Draft

Please note: poor-quality drafts will be declined even if we originally approved your submission idea!

When your draft is complete, send it over! Please observe the following:

  • Draft is free from spelling and grammar errors and is between 1200 and 2500 words.
  • Make your article easy to read by using headers, short paragraphs, and bullet points.
  • Include only ONE link to your own site.
  • Include a several-sentence bio at the end of your article with a link to your site.
  • Attach any photos that go with your article.

5. Edit

After reviewing your first draft, we will send over any edits we would like you to make.

Note: we reserve the right to edit and change the article in any way needed to make it fit well with the style and message of our site!

6. Publish!

We will let you know as soon as your guest post is published!
