FAQs

1. When do babies start to crawl?

Babies typically begin to crawl between 7 and 9 months old. There are several stages of crawling. Babies often start by scooting around, then crawl on their bellies, and then progress to rocking on hands and knees.

They then develop the muscles and coordination to crawl on their hands and knees. Coordinating multiple parts of the body takes a lot!

Talk with your pediatrician if you have any concerns or questions about your baby’s development.

2. How can I help my baby to crawl?

Give your baby lots of time to play on the floor and limit time spent confined in chairs, car seats, and baby seats. Place your baby on their belly for some tummy time. This position encourages kids to lift their heads and build their back muscles.

Begin with a few minutes of tummy time each day from the time your baby is born. Slowly increase this time. Time spent freely moving helps babies to build the muscles and coordination needed to crawl.

Give babies toys to chase to encourage them to reach and try to move. Begin by placing toys just out of reach and rolling them further away as your baby begins to move more.

A playmat can provide lots of comfy space for your baby to move around.

Be patient and know that they will crawl when they’re ready.

What’s your baby’s favorite toy to crawl after?

Supporting your baby’s crawling journey with the right toys can make this developmental milestone a delightful experience. With the help of these crawling baby toys, you can watch your little ones grow stronger, more coordinated, and more confident every day as they give them lots of opportunities to play and move.

Happy crawling!
